There was an unmistakable shift in soul/r&b pop-music during the fall of 2012. Songs like Solange’s “Losing You”, Sky Ferriera’s “Everything is Embarrassing” (both produced by Dev Haynes) and Jessie Ware’s album Devotion; recalled those grand days of the late 80’s and early 90’s when artist like Lisa Stansfield, Massive Attack and Sade ruled the airwaves.
By the looks of it, these smooth soulful sounds are likely to stick with us throughout 2013 as well. “Uphill” is the first single from female solo artist George Maple, a charming track, maybe just a bit too close to Jessie Wares’ “Wildest Moments”. But we suspect Maple could well be the next one to break into more commercial territory.
