“Karibien” from Gothenburg’s Air France, remains one of my favorite tracks of 2006. This is high-speed euphoria, with every possible Balearic sound squeezed in just around three minutes; scattered percussions, layers and layers of synths, barking dogs, trumpets, guitars and a marvelous buildup that reaches an absolutely spectacular climax. There’s a tremendous amount of bitter-sweet melancholia present, an absolute overdose of sundrenched nostalgia that on a personal note brings to mind fading memories of people and places that may or may not be real. Almost seven years on, this track remains just as moving as the first time around. This is the most fabulous vacation you’ll ever experience in three short minutes.
