Ducktails, Real Estate guitarist Matthew Mondanile’s side project, just released their fourth album, The Flower Lane. An elegant set of songs, suitable for anyone who appreciates Fleetwood Mac’s or Steely Dan’s glossy soft-pop. “Under Cover”, one of two clear highlights is filled with phased guitars, sweeping synthesizers and reverberating saxophones, echoing the same slick 70’s elegance as Ariel Pink’s “Reminiscences” or Destroyer’s Kaputt. “Letter of Intent”, the second stand-out, shares essentially the same dreamy palette, but take help from Future Shuttle’s Jessa Farkas and Big Troubles’ Ian Drennan, with Daniel Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never) on keyboards and Joel Ford on bass (Ford & Lopatin). Definitely worth a couple of spins.
