Pool Holograph is a trio from Chicago with a knack for creating anxious yet melodic post-punk. There are of course countless musical references to be found in their music (Wire, Velvet Underground, Joy Division and so on), but they do it with a persistent and unusual coolness. Their four-track self-titled debut shows a great set of individual talents; from Zack Stuckmann’s driving bass-play to Josh Rodin’s spot-on drumming to Whyatt Grant’s melodious guitars and intensive vocals. There are no real stand-outs since each track has its own separable characteristic, thoughtfully constructed with great attention to small assuring details. Listen to the whole EP below.
