Violet – Where The Wild Things Grow

For people in the UK, Violet’s singer Pixie Geldof is a well-known name mainly due to her modeling career where she’s been the face of ad-campaigns for Diesel, Agent Provocateur, Vivienne Westwood to name a few. But also because she happens to be Bob Geldof’s daughter. For us living outside the UK, she’s (sort of) a clean slate and we can listen and enjoy her just as any other new and unknown musical discovery.

“Where The Wild Things Grow” is closely related to “Fade Into You”, Mazzy Star’s beautiful sweeping melodies and thus not far from Lana Del Rey’s “Born To Die”. “Where The Wild Things Grow” is a stunning grower, almost in the same manner as “Video Games” was a good 18 months ago. It’s a delicate experience with emotive vocals balanced with lush orchestrated instrumentals. Violet has created something show-stoppingly remarkable and we’re not affraid of calling it the pop ballad of this young year.
