Now this is a bit awkward. Not just that Summer Heart, the one man project of David Alexander is from my native country of Sweden, but he also happens to live in the same city as me. Still, it was through the first-rate UK blog of Alphabet Bands that we discovered Alexander’s relaxed pop music. Shame on us, but better late than never.
With a name like Summer Heart it’s not hard to imagine that Alexander’s music evokes warm summery afternoons swathed in romantic nostalgia. His music stays in the boundaries of homespun lo-fi textures, but unlike many of Alexander’s peers, his self-assured melodic arrangements are neatly fixed around gentle waves of tinkling guitar play, rather than blurry cheap-sounding synthesizers. After just a brief walkthrough of Alexander’s impressively comprehensive discography (considering that his debut EP was released just about two years ago), it seems that “Beat of Your Heart” is his most welcoming and amicable offering to date. Its elegant composition reminds me of fellow Swedes The Radio Dept when they were at the top of their game, which in my book is a rather good thing. Who knew that such lush gleaming pop music excited just outside my doorstep.
