“Hey, Doreen” is an upbeat, life-affirming track by a Brooklyn five-piece that’s ready to cast their 60’s influenced surf-pop spell on to an unsuspecting indie world. Much like Lykke Li’s “I Follow Rivers” and Alphabeat’s “Fascination”, there is a sense of sparkling energy that resides throughout “Hey, Doreen”, but with an attitude that’s straightforward rocking. The dynamic interchanging vocals of Holly Laessig and Jess Wolfe are peppy yet soulful, delivered with cocksure confidence and an impeccable sense of melody. Musically, the composition preserves a buoyant and infectious instrumentation throughout, loaded with fuzziness, punchiness and any other suitable word of your choice.
Following their self-released EP, “Hey, Doreen” marks a promising next step for the band that recently signed to the respected indie label Mom + Pop. Lucius debut album, titled Wildewoman is due out October 15th.
