“High Road” follows “I Can Hardy Make You Mine” as the second teaser of Cults’ forthcoming sophomore record. “High Road” leaves the sugary 60’s girl-pop aside for a considerably more haunting and melancholic ambiance. The track is driven by a deep rolling bass line, that in hands of producer Ben Allen give the track a sonically bottom-heavy richness, more reminiscent of Deerhunter or Tame Impala than their 2011 debut. It doesn’t necessary hold the instant hit appeal of some of their most rememberable songs, but there is a sign of a maturity in “High Road” that I haven’t heard before. That together with the beautiful instrumentals makes “High Road” one of their most accomplished creation to date.
Static, Cults sophomore record is out October 15.
