Cut Copy – Free Your Mind

Basic RGB

On ”Free Your Mind”, the second teaser and title track of Cut Copy’s upcoming fourth album, they continue with the psychedelic tingled acid-pop introduced on the brilliant “Let Me Show You Love”. It’s also evident that they weren’t lying in the press release when stating that the album is influenced by the two different Summers of Love (1967 and 1989). The David Fridmann (MGMT, Tame Impala) produced “Free Your Mind” is a drugged-fueled mishmash of the 60’s influenced psych-pop that Australian bands do so well these days, and the rave/acid-house movement of the late 80’s. And if “Let Me Show You Love” felt a bit like Screamadelica-era Primal Scream, than “Free Your Mind” does even more so. This track is like taking the brilliant bass line of New Order’s “Fine Time” and fusing it with the carefree ambiance of Scream’s “Come Together”. Expectations of their forthcoming album should be on alerting heights.
