Angelica Allen’s moniker, My Midnight Heart is still on the verge of establishing herself, but the quality of “Chest of Hearts” tells me that she should be a whole lot more recognized than she currently is.
This is her third release and unquestionably also the most distinguishing. I wouldn’t exactly call “Chest of Hearts” synth-pop but it does fit the bill in the broadest perspective. However I suspect that her influences come from a different place. At least to me, it recalls the heydays of 80’s R&B, like Meli’sa Morgan with touches of Massive Attach-era trip-hop. Basically, it sounds like something Dev Hynes’ (Blood Orange) could’ve produced. But didn’t.
My Midnight Heart’s debut EP Chest of Hearts is out on November 5.
