After last year’s wonderful Floating Coffin, Thee Oh Sees, decided to take an indefinite hiatus. It was repported that John Dwyer, who once started Thee Oh Sees as a solo project, felt a need for a “well deserved break and a transitional period” . Enter Damaged Bug, his new solo project, and the antithesis of Thee Oh Sees. Well, sort of. In effect, there never really was an established blueprint for any of Dwyer’s project, which puts him in the same context as Wayne Coyne’s “try-everything-once” theatrics, but even so, electronics and keyboards never before took a front seat on any of his outputs. The latest, and second track from the project, is the insanely addictive “Photograph”, a curious futuristic take on Floydian psych-pop. Weird orbicular synth drones and motoric drums keeps bustling along Dwyer who sounds like a cyborg clone of Syd Barrett. Listen to “Photograph” and first single “Eggs At Night” below.
Damaged Bug’s debut LP Hubbu Bubba is out Feb 25 via Castle Face.
