Pure X – Heaven

Following “Starlight”, Pure X recently offered yet another teaser off their impending third album Angel – and the first since signing to Fat Possum. If their former single felt like a clear deviation from the somber sound on Crawling Up The Stairs, then “Heaven” takes further steps towards the jangly guitar driven pop of bands like Real Estate. As I’ve already stated, I liked the simple, bloodless melodies of “Starlight”. And “Heaven”, available for streaming below, continues down the same route of peace and love. Although Nate Grace’s lyrics come off as shamefully direct, the veneer of clean guitar play and breezy melodies more than make up for the lack of sophistication. Angel is set for an April 1 release date.
