Earlier this year, Young Widows made a rattling return with “Kerosene Girl”, one of this year’s most instantly gratifying songs. During their decade long existence, the Kentucky trio always had a devilish eye for restless metal stained doom/noise/goth rock, but the blackened sludge of “Kerosene Girl” amassed heaviness never before heard from the band. New single “King Sol” mines similar territories, albeit less hard-hitting and intense. Both tracks mark an unexpected and astonishing step up from a band that have slid on steep downward slope since their highly potent 2006 debut album Settle Down City. Easy Pain, Young Widows brewing forth long-play, is set for a May 13 release via Temporary Residence. Pre-order here.
